Project Mapping Systems

Mapping of projects, actions or interventions is a frequent requirement for many Directorate Generals and other organisations. Critech designed several solutions for this, ranging from static maps (and tools to generate them) to dynamically updated maps.

HOLIS 14 Point Mapping System (ECHO)

ECHO finances many humanitarian aid projects in the world. ECHO also keeps track of what the European Union (i.e. the Member States) finance for humanitarian aid. The two databases, HOPE and 14 Point for EC and EU respectively, is being merged into a single HOLIS database, containing the total EU contribution.

JRC developed a mapping application based on a XML format (based on RSS) for data transfer, which is that statistically aggregated (on the fly) and presented in a mapping tool.

RELEX Demining actions (RELEX)

The European Commission finances humanitarian demining projects in the world through direct actions or grants.

The mapping application developed for the HOLIS database was customized and modified for these projects.

CFSP actions

The CFSP was established as the second pillar of the European Union in the 1993 Treaty on European Union signed at Maastricht. Among the 4 instruments available, Joint Actions are designed to address specific situations where operational action by the Union is deemed to be required. Only Joint Actions translate into administrative and operational expenditures.

To map the projects, a flash solution has been developed based on open source Worldkit software. Again, the data are represented in XML (RSS with geographic information), which can be maintained by the web administrator. The maps are dynamic and clickable.
